Top 5 Places To Workout

Working out in the Burg is easy. We are lucky enough to enjoy the sunshine most days of the year and have extremely mild Winters. While there is still a significant amount of people here who set the new year’s resolution to get healthy and workout, St. Petersburg makes it easy for healthy living to become a lifestyle.

Here are some of our favorite ways to get fit

Walk outside

With miles of waterfront trails that are safe and connected, a walk along the waterfront is our favorite way to end the day. The views are spectacular, the people and furry friends are usually friendly, and there is always something beautiful to appreciate.

Take a Yoga Class

The Sundial in Downtown St. Petersburg offers a free yoga class every Sunday in their outside space and is a fun way to get more limber while being able to enjoy the downtown shops or cafes afterward. The Dali Museum also has their yoga class every Sunday that includes admission to the museum. And if you prefer to get your stretch on indoors, the Body Electric is a local favorite. Known for their welcoming and friendly vibe that accepts all of us, even the ones that have nothing in common with Gumby, this place is always tops on the Best of the Bay lists.

Lap Swimming

Swimming laps is always a top way to get circulation into your body while still being kind to your joints. The Salvador will have a solar heated pool on an elevated deck giving you an exercise space with a sky view for your backstroke.

Healthy living feels good! Wishing you a healthy 2017!

Condo Entertaining in Downtown St. Pete

We also know that you don’t want to feel like you are missing out on the comforts that a larger home may have offered to you.

One of the reasons we often hang onto homes that have outsized our needs is so we can entertain and have our friends and family over. Enjoying meals and the company of friends is one of the greatest pleasures in life.

The Salvador condos are built to support a spontaneous night of entertaining or a standing Sunday family dinner with ease. Our kitchens have an open floor plan giving you easy access to living and dining room options for guests to relax and fill. Pet Friendly Living in Downtown St. Pete

The ‘Burg, as we affectionately call our downtown community, is known to have a pet friendly vibe. In fact, the Real Estate website, Zumper, ranks St. Petersburg as the #1 Most Pet Friendly City in the Country! Most of the outdoor cafes that line Beach Drive cater to guests and their pets with doggie bowls of water and treats. Pets relax in the shade of large restaurant umbrellas while their owners get to enjoy a downtown outdoor vibe. Cassis American Brasserie even has a special menu for dogs! Pass by the main strip on any given day and you will feel the mutual love for pets happening in our little city.

Maybe it is the fact that St. Petersburg is sunny most days of the year with mild winters and miles of connected sidewalks to stroll that makes our city so alluring to dog lovers. When our architects and builders got together to design the Salvador, they made pets a priority.

Not only are residents allowed to have pets in their homes at the Salvador, but we will have a state-of-the-art dog walk area. Owners and their dogs will be able to socialize with other dog owners in the building as they meet-up in this special area. We will even have an outdoor cleaning station to make it easy for you to have fun with your dog and not worry about dirt being trekked into your home.
A focus on outdoor living and amenities means you and your pet will be happy to have chosen our new condo tower as your home. There are nearby dog parks and plenty of dog friendly beaches giving your dog the ability to be out and about as long as you choose.

Art Winner Announced for Student Digital Sculpture Contest

St. Petersburg, FL. — The Salvador, a new condominium tower under construction in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg’s Arts and Innovation District, announced the winner of the 3-D Print Digital Art Sculpture Contest in partnership with the University of South Florida (USF) and Tampa Bay Business for Culture and Arts (TBBCA). Tina Piracci, currently a Junior at USF pursuing her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in sculpture, won the top prize with her bronze sculpture, “Don’t Wake Gala,” which represents the marriage of a dreamlike narrative with science and research. Ms. Piracci’s sculpture will be on display in the lobby of The Salvador later this year.

3-D Printed Sculpture St. Pete

Winning Sculpture created by Tina Piracci with 3-D printer, Brass

“Dreams have always been a clairvoyant phenomenon for me,” said Ms. Piracci, who also won a $200 cash prize. “They have taught me that time is a variable, and that fate is real. Where the mind goes when we sleep is a place that we cannot access while conscious. There, I have seen the faces of unborn toddlers, and even deaths of loved ones, including my brother. Dreams give me comfort that our lives do have direction.”

In February, The Salvador partnered with USF and TBBCA to call for student artists to design and create sculptures using a 3-D printer. Interested students were asked to design an innovative sculpture inspired by the Surrealist art of Salvador Dali that could be transformed into a 3-D printed sculpture. For many of the students, this was the first time they worked with the 3-D printer at USF and had to consider how their art would transfer to the materials used in the 3-D printer. The runner-ups for the contest were Jessica Menchon, with her sculpture in bronze and Harish Kumar Chittam, with his sculpture in brass. Each runner-up will receive a $100 cash prize.

“TBBCA is pleased that The Salvador and its developers are leading the way and integrating arts education and technology in their project,” said Susana Weymouth, Executive Director at TBBCA.

Howard Kaplan, Visualization Specialist in the Advanced Visualization Center for Research at USF, led the student artists with 3-D printing workshops and completing the sculpture printings. According to Kaplan, “This contest gave our students a unique real-world opportunity to take their drawings into the digital framework of the 3-D printing and see the results. There were many things they had to consider from design to printing in order to achieve good results.”

The award curators were Hank Hine; Curator and Executive Director of the Dali Museum, Yann
Weymouth; Architect of the Dali Museum, and Sarah Howard; Curator of Public Art and Social Practice.

“Downtown St. Pete is a community that is merging innovation and arts in a very unique way. This contest allowed local student artists access to the 3-D printing innovation that we are sure to see more of in the upcoming years,” said the architect of the Salvador Dali Museum, Yann Weymouth.

Bowen Arnold, DDA, ”Being a part of the arts community in downtown St. Pete and right next door to the USF St. Petersburg campus, The Salvador is a part of and supports the innovation and arts community that defines this area. The building itself is inspired by the art of Salvador Dali and features a modern, artful design in the building and the individual units. DDA Development is committed to hiring local architects, contractors and artists. We were so pleased our contest could inspire local students in a fresh, artistic way.”

Below are the winning artists’ initial design plans for printing. We are impressed with the creativity and innovation shown by our student artists.

5 Incredible One Day Road Trips from St. Petersburg

The great thing about living in downtown St. Pete is that you get all the advantages of city living like nightlife, great restaurants, and diverse cultural scene plus the benefits of urban escapes only a short car ride away.

Here are our Top 5 places to visit when you need a break from the city:

Venice Beach

Just a little over an hour drive away on Florida’s white-sanded Gulf Coast,  Venice Beach is known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World. The Venice coastal area sits on top of a fossil layer that runs 18-35 feet deep and was once teeming with sharks. Bring a shovel and a straining basket and you might find all kinds of shark teeth along its 14 miles of beaches to take home with you, even ones from the pre-historic giant Megalodon shark! The Venice Pier is a good place to start your hunt. Be sure not to miss Venice’s downtown, with Italian architecture and landscaped boulevards dating back to 1925 and similar to the Italian City which it is named after.

Myakka River State Park

If hiking, biking, or canoeing are more your speed, you’ll enjoy Myakka River State Park.  Located nine miles east of 1-75 in Sarasota, Myakka River State Park is one of the oldest and largest state parks in the United States and is abundant in native Florida wildlife like wild pigs, beautiful sea birds, and crazy big alligators. The park has trails to bike or hike with an elevated boardwalk giving you views of the Myakka River and the Florida vegetation. There are bike and canoe rentals available and airboat rides running throughout the day.

Weeki Wachee

Touted as the only city with live mermaids, Weeki Wachee is one of Florida’s oldest and most unique destinations.  While it is famous for its aqua clear spring water, mermaid show and water park, Weeki Watchie also makes for the perfect natural getaway.  Visitors can canoe, kayak or rent boats to travel down the Weekie Watchie River and into Old Florida, where otters, turtles, fish, and manatees can be seen.  Take a drive north of Tampa to experience one of Florida’s newest state parks.

Crystal River

A six-mile waterway fed by local springs and connecting Kings Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, Crystal River is often called “Manatee Haven” due to the fact that in the winter months, when the water temperature cools, Crystal River can be home for over 400 manatees.  The springs, river, bay, and Gulf combine to allow for swimming, diving, boating, kayaking, water skiing, and fishing.  A trip here still offers a day of beauty and a glimpse of Old Florida in the heart of the Nature Coast. In addition to aquatic activites, miles of hiking/biking trails, and a quaint downtown will make you glad you visited. During scallop season (July 1-Sept 24) you can dive in less than 8 feet of water and go on a treasure hunt for bay scallops that will make for a yummy meal at the end of the day. Do the research on the fishing licence required, best areas, or guide rental if you plan on scalloping.

Don Pedro Island State Park

Don Pedro Island State Park, a barrier island located south of St. Pete and across the Intracoastal Waterway from Cape Haze, is only accessible by boat, kayak or Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP). Taking an eco-tour by kayak or SUP here makes for a great outdoor adventure, or visitors can choose to unwind and sunbathe on the mile-long white sandy beach. The area is teeming with starfish, dolphins, manatees, tortoises and a variety of seabirds.

St. Petersburg is a GREEN City

St. Petersburg is a city that is quietly becoming known across the globe as a city of innovation and high standards. It is the first American city to be designated a GREEN city. The designation is earned through Florida Green Building Coalition using LEED criteria and partnerships with Florida Green Building Coalition, Green Building Council and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Living here, you get the sense that there is a deep level of care in the quality of life for this generation and future generations living in what locals affectionately refer to as, “The ‘Burg.”

Here are a few of the sustainability initiatives:

  • Water Conservation
  • LEED standards for new construction
  • Fuel-efficient cars in city fleet
  • Conversion of traffic signal lights to LED saving energy lighting
  • Waste to energy plant
  • Increasing use of solar power
  • Green space preservation with 2,292 acres of park land
  • Building largest bike/ped path in Southeast US
  • Named Florida’s best walking city by Prevention magazine
  • Street sweeping and street scaping with trees and flowering plants

And the list goes on and on. But what truly makes this city green are the people that live here. THEY LOVE TO BE OUTSIDE!!! And the City of St. Pete makes sure that when they do it will be easy for them to get around and lovely for all to experience.

Green-Certified, Local AND Proud.

When you move into The Salvador, you will be living in a beautiful brand new residential structure that refines artful living, and you’ll know that your building was developed with a focus on community-enhancing beliefs and green friendly building practices.

The Salvador is being constructed on a lot that previously contained three dilapidated buildings that were unsightly and run down.  DDA Development is developing The Salvador to be a condo tower that gives people a beautiful place to live in downtown and is beneficial to the downtown community that they love.

For this reason, The Salvador was built with earth friendly philosophies and is the first condo tower in Downtown St. Pete to be a Green-Certified building. This distinction sets The Salvador apart from other condo towers. Here are some of the sustainability features that you will enjoy:

  • Energy Star windows
  • Energy Star glass doors
  • High-efficiency air-conditioners and water heaters
  • Solar heated pool
  • Energy Star roofing
  • Native Florida landscaping with low-flow irrigation system
  • Resident recycling program

Being green is just a part of the building’s sustainability practices. Supporting the local is the other core philosophy. The condo tower is being built with a focus on hiring local St. Petersburg companies in as many aspects as possible. Local hiring includes:

  • Contractor
  • Artist
  • Interior Design
  • Architecture Firm

Live in beauty, AND feel proud. It’s all here… www.thesalvador.com

The Salvador Outdoor Features

While there are many benefits to living in downtown St. Petersburg on the west coast of Florida, most people are going to say that the sunny weather is one of the best things about living here. It is called the Sunshine City since there is sunshine almost every single day of the year. Even in the Winter months, many days are blue skies with the sun setting around 6:00 pm, much different than a northern city with gray skies and early night falls.

The Salvador, a new condo tower being built in the Innovation District in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, created their artful design with outdoor living as an essential part of the quality of life.

Every condo has Great Rooms with expansive 8’ high window walls with glass doors leading to private balconies so residents can have easy access to spectacular vantage points and fresh air. Even the Bedrooms have at least two large 7’ high by 2’-8” wide windows offering views of the city.

The outdoor amenities give you every opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and hang out with your neighbors of friends. The Salvador’s outdoor area includes:

  • Expansive 11,000 square foot third-floor amenity deck
  • Outdoor firepit conversation area
  • Outdoor dining area with gas range, furniture and large umbrellas
  • State-of-the-art gated dog walk area with cleaning station
  • Outdoor yoga space on amenity deck
  • Elevated pool deck with spa and heated saltwater pool
  • Sculpture garden
  • Ground level rock and bamboo water garden
  • Custom architectural metal art screen on the south wall of the parking garage

Downtown St. Petersburg also offers miles of waterfront wide planked sidewalks, water sports on the Bay, plenty of green space, parks, aquatic center, and, even more, outdoor options that will make your weekend and free time feel rejuvenating and healthy.

Making an International Move to St. Pete

When it comes to the state of Florida, Miami has always been the city that attracted the most international homebuyers. But, that demographic is changing. With St. Petersburg’s walkability, waterfront trails, outdoor cafes and access to culture, there has been an influx of people from all over the world purchasing homes in this growing Florida city.

Walk through downtown on any Saturday afternoon and you are sure to hear a variety of languages spoken as the diversity of the international population grows. People from other countries enjoy the pleasant Florida weather, the security and safety here and the convenience of direct international flights into Tampa International Airport.

According to Bob Glaser, President and CEO of Smith & Associates Realty, “We’ve been developing strategies, thinking about those direct flights and how to put our properties in front of these folks and build a presence. People are a lot more likely to purchase property in an area they can fly to directly, and the recent addition of direct flights such as those from Frankfort, Germany could be game changers.”

These new flights are bringing people from Canada, Latin America, and Europe, who are eager to purchase a second home for vacation or to meet investment or future retirement needs.

St. Pete is the place. Call our Realtors today to learn more about living at The Salvador in Downtown St. Petersburg. We are over 70% sold and have Realtors that are very skilled at helping the international buyer.

Interior Design at The Salvador St. Pete

Our development company, DDA Development, understands the value of artful design and has implemented the concept into every aspect of The Salvador. They hired local architects at MESH Architecture and Fabrication to design the Salvador with inspiration from the artist, Salvador Dali, and have hired local interior design firm, Touche Design Studio, to help you complement the interior of your condos with art and function. Every aspect of design in our brand new condo tower in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, is there to enhance the quality of life you feel in our space.

According to the Interior Designers at Touche, there are four reasons you should hire an interior designer:

No. 1: Interior Design Is More Affordable Than You Think

When it comes to setting a budget, you are in the driver’s seat. You tell us how much you are willing
to spend and we will stick to that budget. In fact, designers can help save you money by helping you avoid costly mistakes such as buying a sectional that is too large or a chandelier that is too small. You will save time, headaches, and money.

No. 2: Designers Bring Your Vision to Life

Most homeowners have an idea of what they like. You probably know whether your style is traditional, coastal, modern or eclectic. The difficult part is translating that vision into real life. If you’ve ever tried
to do your own decorating, you know how tough it can be. Designers not only have natural instincts about what pieces work together; we can envision an overall picture the way an untrained eye cannot.

No. 3: Designers Make the Most of Your Space

We understand how certain items will affect the flow and feel of a room, and we can quickly identify aesthetic problems that might not be obvious to you. We’re also experts in determining the best size and positioning of furniture to make the most out of your space, whether it’s large or small. Scale is extremely important to the look of the room, and getting it right takes years of practice.

No. 4: Access to Resources Unavailable to the Public

There is a world of furnishings, fabrics, accessories that are available to the trade only. Working with us as your interior designers gives you access to these items.

As Monica Greenberg of Touche Design Studio says, “your home tells a story… about you, how you live, where you’ve been and where you dream of going!”
